Innovate UK has announced Round 2 of the Innovation in Infrastructure Systems Competition will open on 16th January. Registration deadline is 15th March (12 noon) and application deadline is 22 March (12 noon).

Up to £15m to stimulate innovation in infrastructure systems that provide critical services for the economy, environment and society. The four priority areas are:
- 'Smart' infrastructure
- Energy systems (including nuclear fission and offshore wind)
- Connected transport
- Urban living
Smart and resilient infrastructure solutions are likely to be multidisciplinary with businesses in energy, construction and transport working together. Solutions will include new technologies from the digital, communications, sensors, electronics and novel materials sectors. Business models will link services with new collaborative and integrated solutions.
IUK is looking to fund a portfolio of projects, including technical feasibility, industrial research or experimental development. Projects must show significant innovation in one of the priority areas. Proposals must also improve business growth, productivity and/or create export opportunities for at least one UK SME involved in the project.
Projects must be collaborative and UK business led and must include at least one UK-based SME partner. UK-based research organisations can participate in projects as collaborators. A UK SME may run the project on their own or with other businesses and/or research organisations.
Total eligible project costs : £25,000 to £5 million. Projects are expected to last between 3 months and 3 years.
