Wight Community Energy

Wight Community Energy is new enterprise on the Isle of Wight.  It has been set up to deliver community-owned renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy supply projects. As a Community Benefit Society, all surplus profits are re-invested back into local communities via an independent community fund.

WCE brings ownership, control and benefit into local hands: a fundamentally different way of doing business than the big six offer. It brings about a fairer, low carbon, community-owned energy infrastructure by:

  • Offering local people a financial stake in local energy projects

  • Increasing local control and accountability within the energy system

  • Ensuring economic benefits derived from local projects stay in the local area

  • Prioritising community returns by recycling profits back into local communities

  • Reducing carbon emissions and increasing energy security

WCE is offering people the chance to invest in its first project.  It is a long-term investment with a target return of 7% a year return on investment and capital repaid.
