Wight Community Energy is new enterprise on the Isle of Wight. It has been set up to deliver community-owned renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy supply projects. As a Community Benefit Society, all surplus profits are re-invested back into local communities via an independent community fund.
WCE brings ownership, control and benefit into local hands: a fundamentally different way of doing business than the big six offer. It brings about a fairer, low carbon, community-owned energy infrastructure by:
Offering local people a financial stake in local energy projects
Increasing local control and accountability within the energy system
Ensuring economic benefits derived from local projects stay in the local area
Prioritising community returns by recycling profits back into local communities
Reducing carbon emissions and increasing energy security
WCE is offering people the chance to invest in its first project. It is a long-term investment with a target return of 7% a year return on investment and capital repaid.
