KCC produces riji® - the ideal replacement for the ready meal and food-to-go markets. For the last ten years, KCC have been developing riji® and have been told by many retailers and food producers it is what they are looking for to replace CPet plastic ready meal trays. Not only is riji made from natural plant fibres such as sugar cane, it is coated in a biodegradable food friendly material which makes it suitable for holding moisture-rich foods such as ready meals. What’s more, it remains rigid in both traditional and microwave ovens.

Kevin Clarke, Managing Director of KCC, became familiar with Greentech South around 2011-2012 when being presented with grants from our European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) projects. KCC became a part of our EMphasis3 project and achieved a £25,000 grant in order to bring their innovation closer to market.

When asked about working with Greentech South, Kevin commented that “Working with Greentech South and Portsmouth University has been a great boost to figuring out solutions to various problems on our technical journey over the years and has also been a source of great moral and encouragement”.

A huge congratulations to KCC for all of their success so far - we can’t wait to see what you achieve in the future. To find out what funding you could access and other benefits from both of our European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funded projects (EMphasis3 and Low Carbon Solent), complete the Expression of Interest Form and our Business Facing Team will be in touch.
